Justin Parker, 42, was taken by helicopter to the Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience after a "medical emergency" at work on Thursday, Aug. 15, according to a GoFundMe page. Fire Chief Jeff Foote said Parker was put on a ventilator in the intensive care unit with a brain bleed.

The GoFundMe page had raised more than $2,900 from at least 44 donations as of Monday, Aug. 19.

"He had previously been out of work dealing with a kidney stone so this just adds to his medical misfortune," Chief Foote wrote on the fundraiser page.

Chief Foote also said doctors believe it could take at least a month for Parker to recover.

Parker is a single father of Lincoln, a boy who turned seven years old on Sunday, Aug. 18. The Monroeville Volunteer Fire Company drove Parker's truck to Lincoln to surprise him on his birthday.

The fire company said it planned to host a car wash fundraiser for Parker at the firehouse on Monroeville Road from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 24.
